Some Of The Weirdest Wedding Gifts

When a happy couple ties the knot it is tradition for guests, friends and family to give them a gift to help them in their lives together. Traditionally this would have consisted of silverware, furniture and other useful household items as a married couple would not live together until going through the nuptials.

These days things are a little different as many couples live together long before getting married and wedding gifts are now often something quirky or luxury, not necessities. But not everyone is great at giving gifts, here are some of the more unusual items couples received on their special day but probably didn’t like as much as the spa vouchers.

Everyone loves one of those 3D pictures, the type you have to stare into for a while before you discover a vague shape lurking amongst the migraine-inducing mess of colours and patterns. But a New York couple were left behind in the second dimension after an estranged relative gave them a 6ft 3D canvas painting, strangely depicting a horse’s head, which was somehow supposed to fit neatly in their tiny one bedroom Manhattan apartment, the couple swiftly left the art piece to the next art lover to pass it by on the street corner.

However confusing, most gifts are given with the best meaning in mind, however some are no; In Spain, a bitter women-turned stalker who was not actually invited to the wedding of her ex-boyfriend, sent the couple a gift wrapped box, the box contained a handgun, a single bullet and a note reading “for when you are ready to get rid of her.” They made us of the gun by keeping it for protection in their new house and in their first week together they heard an intruder downstairs, the husband quickly reached for the gun and shot into the dark, instantly killing the trespasser who ironically turned out to be the disturbed ex-partner who had given them the gun in the first place.

For a safe bet, many people give new kitchen appliances as wedding gifts, which is fine as long as several of you don’t end up buying the same thing. A couple in California were a little confused when they received the entire range of George Forman cooking grills, but even more confusing was that they were from the same person. As it turns out the apparently generous guest was the owner of a electrical store that had started selling the grills and since he bought them at a relatively low cost price, felt rather cheap giving just one, so to appear generous, he individually wrapped each of the twelve grills of various shapes and sizes. The couple were very grateful as they made use of several of the grills and gave away the rest at Christmas, birthdays and as other wedding gifts for the next year.
