Select the Best Wedding DressYou’ve waited your entire life for this day to come. To men it sounds silly and even stupid, but let’s face the facts here. As little girls we sit with notebooks, pieces of papers and whatever writing instrument we can acquire be it a pen, pencil or crayon. We will sit in our closet with a flashlight and write down the name of the person we’re going to marry complete with little hearts for the dots on the “I” that may be in their name. I remember having a notebook, a scrapbook really, of all of the things I wanted for my day. It’s a “princess fantasy” and it’s our right to have one. All eyes are on us. You can have a great cake, some awesome decorations. Even plenty of booze and music at the reception to go along with drunk Aunt Molly and that crazy Uncle no one remembers but yet has a tendency to grope your bridesmaids and none of it matters because at the end of the day everyone will be talking about you, the Bride, and the gorgeous dress you will be wearing! Well, the gorgeous dress you hope to be wearing. Choosing the right dress is all based on the type of wedding that you are planning. Generally speaking there are three types of weddings that one typically chooses from. Now, of course, there are “sub types” based on financial restrictions so obviously you will have to make decisions based on your cash flow. The Classic Your classic motif will always consist of white, white and even more white. The Groom will be in a tuxedo that is black along with his ushers. Your guests will be in suits and nice dresses. Flower arrangements galore and will most assuredly be inside a Church, the more grand the location the better. Your dress will be stark white with lace, train and veil. You won’t show too much cleavage and you will be in heels. The dress should be formfitting and not loose on your body. If you are heavyset and don’t feel comfortable with tight clothing then a modest looseness to the dress will be acceptable. The classic gown would usually always be custom fit and custom stitched. The Casual Now I’m not talking about Jeans and T-shirts. This isn’t Britney Spears y’all. When we talk about classic we talk about modest. Not as uppity as a classic wedding. The Groom and his Ushers would be in dark suits and the Bridesmaids in nice dresses. Your wedding dress can still be white and frilly made of satin and lace, but less expensive or dolled up. The alternative is a nice, sleek dress then hangs freely from the body, not like a parachute, but more like a nice evening gown. The Themed Most definitely my favorite of all the types because it is free forming and fun. Your imagination can soar far and wide and you can really allow your personality to shine. And, once again, I’m not talking about Britney Spears because let’s get a reality check here. In no circumstance should there be white velour jumpsuits as wedding attire especially saying “pimps” and “hos” on them. With that said you can have a lot of fun with a themed wedding. The most heard of would be the Renaissance wedding. As someone who attends Renaissance Faire’s almost as much as Christians attend Church I can attest to the grandeur of a Renaissance wedding. They can, and often times do, surpass a classic wedding in style and grace. They don’t all have to be done up to that scale though. Pirate, Superheroes, Wildlife, Jungle and Sea are all viable. Even if you have a love of certain television shows like Star trek or Star Wars you can base a wedding theme around those. Whichever theme you pick your dress should always match that theme. If it’s a pirate theme then don’t dress like a deckhand. Dress like the Captain or the “Pirate Queen”. |
